With spring about to be sprung, many cabin-fever-suffering Missouri parents and their kiddos are undoubtedly ready to finally leave home. With record-breaking snowfall in Marshall and many parts of central Missouri, getting into some springtime fun is the perfect remedy for the winter blues. Here are some of Marshall’s best spring events for families this year.
Seussical The Musical (April 13)
For lovers of all things Dr. Seuss, be sure to check out Seussical The Musical at the Lyceum Theatre in nearby Arrow Rock on Saturday, April 13, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Based on the Broadway musical, the show intertwines some of the doctor’s fan-favorite tales from The Cat In The Hat to Horton Hears A Who along with the beloved characters from the Jungle of Nool and more uncovered inside the pages of these beloved childhood classics.
As proud sponsors of this event, the whole team here at McCarthy Chevrolet Buick GMC invites you to attend this family-fun extravaganza and suggests getting your tickets before this event sells out!
Shapes Wiggle And Bounce (April 30)
For toddlers just beginning to explore their newfound mobility, Parents As Teachers and the Shapes Dance Academy have proudly partnered to present Shapes Wiggle And Bounce. On Tuesday, April 30th, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., little walkers through the age of five are all invited to participate in this fun, free dance and tumble class. Be sure to bring your smartphone to capture their maneuvers to share on social media.
Missouri Fire Service Charity BBQ Smoke-Out (May 11)
One of the best things about living in Marshall is eating some of the most amazing BBQ. This spring, take a short trip to Columbia to experience the Missouri Fire Service Charity BBQ Smoke-Out. On Saturday, May 11th, from noon to 6:00 p.m., the public is invited to attend this delicious charitable event supporting the Firefighter Cancer Support Network and a separate fund for the Firefighter Museum Project. In addition to sampling killer barbeque, visitors will enjoy live music, and adults are able to imbibe an ice-cold beer along with their BBQ.
Spring Fling On The Square (May 18)
The Marshall Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the 17th annual Spring Fling On The Square at the downtown Marshall Square from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 18. Although vendors are still applying, the City Commerce is expecting to partner with the same popular participants from the past, including The Bike Rodeo, Shriner’s Parade and Jim The Wonder Dog.
Cinderella (June 6-16)
For anyone who has ever dreamed a dream, the G-rated Roger and Hammerstein’s classic Cinderella presentation is a visually stunning way to spend an entertaining evening with the whole family. In this more contemporary tale, audiences will see remarkable sets, scenery, and transformations including the pumpkin carriage, glass slipper, the masked ball along with a few surprising twists.
From June 6-16th, there are nightly performances at 8:00 p.m., with cheaper daily matinees available at 2:00 p.m.
Mermaids In Marshall Parade And Festival (June 8)
Little girls nowadays dream of being the beautiful Princess Ariel from the beloved Disney classic The Little Mermaid, while boys envision being on board the Black Pearl from Pirates Of The Caribbean. Bring these dreams to life at the 12th Annual Mermaids In Marshall Parade And Festival on Saturday, June 8th, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. It’s one of the best 2019 Marshall events for kids, so don’t miss out.
Their maritime menu includes fun for boys, girls, and the whole family, like:
- Splash Island with an 18′ water slide, bounce house, inflatable slip-and-slide and more
- Mermaid and pirate storytime on “The Island” from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Live music, arts, and crafts will be on display throughout the day
This year will showcase the inaugural appearance of the first annual Seafood Competition Cook-Off, with amateurs and professionals participating, and those in attendance judging the event — including you and your family! There will also be a canned food drive, which will knock a dollar off the price of attending the feast.
Stick around for the launching of the parade at 6:00 p.m., featuring more pirate antics and appearances of mermaids. Anyone can participate in the march, with or without a float, by contacting the City of Marshall in advance. (And don’t forget your bathing suit!)
